What a treat! Half-naked mermaids while I'm shivering at the keyboard! I loved them all... here's what I got: Lisa Mallette (our very generous hostess... thank you!)... Holographic paper as a background and then her scene stamped on cardstock on top of it.... PSX Mermaids, Undersea stamps & fish ... and all of this painted with Pearlescent acrylics... really cool pearly/metalllic look... inside is the saying: "When you have a friend, you have everything." This is an eye-catching card! Lisa also sent her Mermaid Christmas Card... what a winner! Not sure of the stamps... but it's a mermaid on the beach in front of a palm tree strung with lights! And the mermaid is wearing a red felt Santa's hat complete with a miniature jingle bell hanging on the end! And there are real bits of shells on the "sand"... I loved this! Staci (LeStamin@aol.com) Did a cool brayered background on her card that really gives an underwater feel. She stamped coral stamps and all kinds of fishies to keep her PSX Mermaid company. The Mermaid is beautifully embossed... as are a few of the fish and here and there. I love the different colors in the tail and the hair really sparkles! Thanks Staci! Violetnut's mermaid is embossed in gold and colored softly. She cut her out with scallop edged scissors and put her on dots above a pretty piece of soft blue mulberry...this on top of a sandy colored card stock... It's a very delicate looking card... and the mermaid (not sure which one this is... I've seen her somewhere) is sitting on a rock kind of gazing toward the sky..... sigh..... Thanks Violetnut! Hindy (HAKlatsky@aol.com) did a really fun card that looks like it was a LOT of work!!! Her mermaid is sitting in a tub filled with bubbles. There is some serious masking here... a towel bar with towels, a rug on the floor, ladybug wallpaper, a checkered floor... so many details!! Open the card and it says "Splish Splash I'm taking a Bath!".... This is the kind of card you run your finger over... cause you can't believe all the depth and layers! Thanks Hindy!! Artsy used some unusual papers and a fish charm on her card. And I think she used that beedz stuff I've heard about but never seen... is that what it is??? This looks really cool...She used the Laurel Burch Sea Goddess - embossed and hand colored - and cut out with fancy scissors. Another image of a shell... a really fancy conch - this embossed and cut out. These two images and the fish charm are layered over a piece of 3-d paper and all of these are on black cardstock. I really like the effect of this... I'm partial to collages... and I think I might just have some of that 3-D paper somewhere... hmmm.... Thanks Artsy! And thanks again to Lisa for hosting... I've gotten some inspiration from these... and some hopelessness too... cause I know I'll never be able to "do it all!!!"... but what fun I'll have trying! Hi, Lori, i'm sure you'll get as many answers for this as you do replies, but here's how I do it: I use Ellen Gordon's (Evo's) method of a big 3-ring binder with the clear pages you can insert a page into. You start with a strip of hook tape about 1/4" wide; run it down the page--you can go either vertically or horizontally, about 1 or 1 1/2 " in from the outside edge of the page (this depends a little on the size of your dies). On a sheet of shirtboard (to give stability to the page), stamp your image so it will be next to the hook strip at the top of the page. Insert your cardboard, stick your stamp to the hook, and you're done! I write the name of the co. beside the stamped image. You can group your stamps by catagory or company, whichever you prefer, on one page, or several pages together. (Or whole binders, for that matter, if you have *lots* of dies!) I think this is one great method--thanks to Evo for getting me started with it or i'd have all my stamps in a pile in a drawer. So-o-o - I keep mine in pendaflex hanging file folders in a file cabinet. I still use the indexing method of stamping the image on some cheap cardstock (bought from Office Depot), then I insert that into plastic sheet protectors. I then put some hook tape directly on the sheet protector, next to the image, and then affix the die. All of the rubber is categorized and it's easy to access - my file cabinet is at the end of my stamp table. Everyone has a different method but this is what works best for me! Well, here's how I do it. Last spring I decided to go to HALOS, and unmounted all my wood mounted and put them on HALOS. There are many ways to deal with HALO storage and here's what I do: As I mount each stamp, I stamp it on three sheets of paper. If I know who the mfg of the stamp is, I write that next to the image on the paper. I sort them before mounting into the categories I prefer and then try to put all same category images on the same page or pages. I put each set of the stamped image pages into page protecters in looseleaf binders. In one of the binders I add a page protector with a blank sheet of cardstock next to each page of images. On these pages I place strips of the hook tape and place the rubber dies (mounted on fuzzy tape) on these in a similar position to the images on the opposite page. Depending on how many stamps you have, this can take many binders. Mine currently take 5 of the 3" binders. But I also have a whole drawer almost full that are stuck on the HALOs fuzzy tape but not cut or stamped in the directories yet. When I get to them it will probaly take another 2 or possibly 3 more binders. The other two binders - one I keep on the computer desk. This one is the one I used for reference so I know what stamp credits to put with my cards. The third one lives in the car so that if I happen to find myself in the neighborhood of a stamp store, I'll have my directory along with me to ensure I don't purchase duplicates. And of course, I have continued to buy wood mounted stamps when that urge for instant gratification strikes. And as a result, since I tore all my stamps off the wood, I have collected a whole bunch more. A few weeks ago, I ran over to Home Depot and picked up 2 boards 6 feet long each and 1/2" thick x 2" wide. Hubby was away, and I was anxious to get this done, so I also got some of those L shaped screw-in thingies. I screwed the thingies into the wall and laid the boards across them. 3 thingies to each board. Now I have 12 feet of narrow 2" shelve space above the sofabed. And on these shelves are the wood mounted stamps I have purchased and not yet moved to HALOS. I may keep some of these, especially the BIG ones, on the wood. They do make pretty artwork on the wall. Anyway, some of these are doubled up (one on top of another), but the two shelves are already full and I may have to put up another. --`--,--{@ Patti in Fort Myers, FL @}--`--,-- ~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~^~:~ Computers are life. So far some are in baggies waiting for HALOS, some are in baggies HALOed and trimmed, some are on HALOS waiting to be trimmed.... Wish me luck..... Cheers, and a Great '98! ex fast posto (Nan) - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Dec 1997 21:46:58 -0800 From: Simpson Subject: RubberTown: Re: RS: Re: How do YOU manage your unmounteds? I store mine similar to Lori. I use A2 size envelopes and those plastic mini chests. I can put a double row of envelopes in each drawer. Stamp the image on the envelope and write the name of the company on it too. Then sort by subject. Easy to rearrange. I have a lot of cat stamps. So one whole drawer holds the cats. I use HALOS - wonderful idea. I do not like the acrylic mounts though. So I have several sizes of wood blocks completely covered with the hook tape. The acrylic mounts are not thick enough. I get ink all over my fingers when I stamp the ink pad. CatStamPurr - Barbara Simpson - Petaluma CA At 08:11 PM 12/26/97 +0000, Lori Blaauw wrote: >I keep mine in size A envelopes in photo boxes. I think everyone except one person signed their cards (?) so you might want to check this one again. I don't want to be taking credit where it isn't due! Unfortunately, I don't remember myself who made this card - maybe the person who did will see this and speak up! Again, thanks so much for posting. I keep my UMs in baseball card pages and photo album pages (for the larger ones) in notebooks. Each notebook has a theme: florals, scenery items, fantasy images, word stamps, backgrounds, etc. After preparing each stamp for mounting (I use the acrylic block/static cling vinyl system), I stamp the image on plain typing paper, cut it out, and tape the paper to the front of the pocket in which the stamp is stored. I also write a simple code on the paper that tells which company made the stamp. For instance: DN is DeNami, APP is Appalachian Art Stamps, COM is Comotion. I have the codes and what they stand for written out alphabetically on sticker paper and stuck to the front of each notebook for quick reference. Hope this gives you some inspiration! :) Lisa Mallette euphoria@gru.net - - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Dec 1997 07:13:29 EST From: GG Ideas Subject: RubberTown: Re: RS: Re: How do YOU manage your unmounteds? I just want to say thanks for all of you who took the time to share your ideas / and systems. I have about three grab bags of UM coming, and from what I hear, Stampo, Giggles, and the rest are overly generous, so I know that I will need to organize them somehow. I have very few um's now, and always mount them to wood (Best Friend owns a lumber company, so I get lots of scraps!) Anyway, I can see now that this will probablly be impractical as my collection grows. So, I appreciate all the ideas and suggestions!
