I keep a 3X5 card index of all of my stamps, mounted and unmounted. I stamp two cards with the same image. Then on one at the top left I write a catageory.....at the bottom I put the stamp company, date purchased, and whether or not it is mounted (on wood) or HALOS (what I use for unmounteds), and the price if I have it. On the second card I list the company name at the top left and the other info on the bottom. These two cards are then put into two files...one for category and one for company and sorted by whatever is on the top left. For storing the unmounteds I use long business envys and only one company to an envy...usually I can get about 8-10 Halos mounted stamps into one envy. Each envy has the image of the enclosed stamp. The envys are then kept in alpha order. Not very sophisticated but it works for me. I call it "flower paper/cardstock" because that's just what it is... paper with real dried flower petals in it. This is not a handmade paper... but a smooth writing paper (28 lb) and a matching smooth cardstock, with actual flower petals in the paper. It comes in 2 types... one has LOTS of petals, and the other has fewer, more space out petals. Both come in the TEXT (paper) weight and CARDSTOCK weight. Now, here's the problem... these are VERY expensive (I was shocked!) but they are GORGEOUS! The good thing is I don't have to buy a whole ream... they come in packages of 100... so I can order only as much as I need. I will be ordering/picking up these on Jan. 10th and shipping Jan. 12th. I will take pre-orders ONLY and buy only what you order. Here's my system: I stamp each image onto a 4 x 6 index card and note on the card who made the stamp and where it is stored. For smaller stamps I may stamp two or three on the same file card. I file these into a file box by category - flowers, scenery, words and verses, etc. Then, when I get inspired, I can pull out all the cards in one category, or lots of cards in different categories and drop them on my work surface to play "mix and match" or to see if anything jumps out at me as a completely new combination. I store masks in a category in those little glassine envelopes the P.O. gives away and stick the envelope in the back of the section related to it. I keep my UMs in CD jewel cases where I have turned the label inside out and stamped on the blank underside. Each jewel case is labelled: Flowers 1, Flowers 2, etc. and these are kept in a COSTCO rollaround cart. This will not work if you mount your UMs on cushion as it is too deep then to fit into CD cases - I use the HALOs system and find the velcro is cushiony enough. Took me a long time to find a system that works for me and I'm sure it won't work for everyone but you might find something in it that will suit your way of working. I'm staring at some empty CD cases right now at the computer desk! I'm going to put those little halo-mounted UM's that tend to get lost in paper envys in the cases. Right now, I use the rubbermaid shoe boxes to store some of my stamps by my favorite catagories-both wood mounted and UM's in paper envys. Others go into binders, the biggest ones I can find, where the UM's are on page protectors with hook tape or stick-it-over-and-over glue. And then I have a small hutch with shelves where I display my newer/favorite wood mounted stamps. I'm kind of attached to my wood mounted stamps and would never convert those. Now, if I could just get a good index system going--a project for the new year, or the next millenium?? I have heard some people say that Vivid/Tsuneiko are okay to interchange and some people say NO!!! So - what is the REAL story? I'm trying to find a catalog by their company to purchase one. Does anyone carry their products or a catalog? TIA! - -melissa - - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Dec 1997 14:18:14 -0900 From: Jim & Kari Subject: RubberTown: Swap Proposal: Confetti Anyone interested in doing a confetti swap? What a lovely collection of cards. Ann Sieber stamped the "Water Lilies" on glossy white cardstock, and then colored it in. She layered this over a marbled paper and then mounted on light blue cardstock. I love the beautiful effect. No name on the next one. It is the "Rosa" stamped and beutifully colored on white cardstock and then mounted on light pink cardstock. The rose is colored in pink tones, and the card is set off with 2 different colors of pink ribbon tied on top. Inside the card is stamped "if friends were flowers...I'd pick you" On the back of the card is a the back side of a teddy bear holding a rose. I love this card very much, and hope whoever made it is reading this post. KCDavis did the "Wisteria" in purple. She stamped the stamp on off white cardstock, and then colored it in with the blossoms in purple. She fancy cut the edges, and then used a dark purple pen around the fancy edges....very striking. She mounted this over a purple cardstock that has fancy corners, and mounted this over the same offwhite cardstock used with the stamp, and rounded the corners of it. Stitching Stamper used the "Morning Glory" She stamped and embossed using a blue ink on white glossy cardstock. She cut this out and layered over a very interesting white lacy paper I have not seen before. This was then mounted to a dark blue cardstock. A simply elegant design!! Ginny C stamped the "Lilies" on an off white cardstock, and colored them in a pastel yello. She rounded the corners of the cardstock, and mounted this offcenter over a a natural green/gray duplex cardstock. This was very pleasing also. Our hostess also sent a card (Thanks...that was a nice surprise I was not expecting!) Merlene stamped the "Azalea" over a white linen paper and used gold embossing powder. A simple yet striking use of the stamp! I will remember that. Thanks so much Merlene for the hard work hosting the swap and sweating it out when the strike happened. I appreciate your efforts. Thanks so much to Lisa for hosting, and to the creators of all the entries. I really enjoyed this swap! From Melissa Archer - Dark blue card stock layered with white card stock that was corner punched. Two good-looking mermaids are embossed and colored, along with a dolphin, sea horse and other sea-life. Melissa put a cover of what she calls "sparkly acetate" over the entire front and it gives the impression of looking through water. It is really neat. From Cass - Glossy white card stock brayered in shades of purple, green and aqua and with a really neat texture. It looks almost like she used scrunched up plastic wrap, but her description says she brayered it. Stamped and embossed in a teal glitter EP is a mermaid sitting on a rock and the words "Follow your Dreams". A pretty card! From Hindy K - a cute card that shows a mermaid relaxing in a nice hot bathtub!! The floor is a layered piece of tan/brown check paper that looks like floor tile, and the "wallpaper" is a layered piece that has the cutest ladybugs on it. The tub covers most of the front of the card and it shows Miss Mermaid relaxing with the end of her tail up out of the water and resting on the edge of the tub. This is really cute. An unmarked card on duplex stock that is white inside and a pretty pale, dusty blue outside. Stamped and colored in pencil on the front are two detailed fish in water with a mermaid sitting (riding?) on one of the fish. There is a moon and some stars in the background. It has an artsy, elegant feel to it. I liked it very much and would like to know who the stamp is from? If the creator would contact me I would appreciate it.... :) From Tracey - an undersea card with a mermaid swimming along holding a seashell that was mounted on foam tape so it stands out slightly. The water looks like it was watercolored and it is really beautiful. It looks the way I always *wish* mine would turn out - many shades of blue and aqua mingled with just a hint of lavender. Tracey also stamped the ocean floor complete with a treasure chest and a coral reef that has sea plants growing on it. Really a nice card. Thanks again to all that participated and to Lisa for hosting.
