It is a large piece of heave plastic that fastens to the base and sticks up so that the arm swings along it, and you can not get your hand under the arm. Brian also said you can only get about two or three sheet of paper to slide under the shield. So the scissors is almost as fast. I'm waiting to see what kind of shield they come up with for a scissors. Phil Craig & Ann wrote: > > I have one of these that dh got me for free at work.. They were getting > rid of it.. These work fairly well, but I would suggest that you stick to smaller stacks of paper. In one of my library jobs, we found that we were getting the cutter blade out of alignment. (We cut small magazines with ours.) That meant that your carefully measured 4 inches was 4 inches at one side of the paper and could be as much as a quarter inch off by the other side of the sheet. I like the little personal trimmers because they seem to be harder to mess up in that manner AND I can't think of nearly as many ways one might injure themselves on that type. - --- Ellie wrote: >A very old arm style Very sharp paper cutter!!!
