I just got through posting two things in your defense when this post came up. I realize you are having some problems with a few people over this, but considering the posts I have just read that have been in support of you, do you really think it kind to just basically cuss everybody out, including those who have so kindly posted in your favor? If you have decided to quit that is certainly your choice but is it necessary to leave in this manner? I think you owe alot of us an apology. A Fellow Vendor, Shaunna Mariann at S.C.P. Just a fellow stamper who enjoys this list immensely. This is a haven for me. I love communicating with other stampers and thoroughly enjoy sharing stamping, joys, and news. With that in mind I write: I'd like to address the issue of netiquette in general. There are a number of web sites with general rules for netiquette. The link below is to one of these. There are so many, perhaps some of you know of others that are more informative than this one, but it is a start. http://www.primenet.com/~vez/neti.html While individual lists, bulletin boards and chats have their own specific rules and guidelines, Network Etiquette or Netiquette does have general guidelines that cover the whole spectrum for cybernauts. Here are just a few -- not of my own making. These were in place long before I went on-line. First, remember the written word is powerful and difficult to understand. Without the facial expressions, the intonation of the voice, etc. it is nearly impossible to know if one is reading sarcasm, humor, a dig or what! Exercise caution. The written word can be so easily misinterpreted! If you are angry -- write your letter, hit the delete button and write it again. Then leave it overnight. Chances are you won't send it. One sure thing: no one ever got in trouble for *not* sending an angry letter. It's a good practice to let anything you've written in the heat of emotion stay put overnight. If you should find yourself in a disagreement with one person, communicate with the other party via private e-mail rather than continue to send messages to a list, bulletin board or group. If you are debating a point which might interest a group, summarize it for them later. This one is crucial -- don't reprint or quote private e-mails on a Bulletin Board or List. Private e-mails are meant for the recipient and only the recipient. Having said that, I quickly add that nasty e-mails, frightening e-mails, derogatory e-mails can and should be reported to your server and to the sender's server. There isn't a lot you can do about ugly personal e-mail, but many servers will pull the plug on senders. Unfortunately, these people find ways to sign up with a new ID and go at it again if they are really determined. But, one can try. Profanity is generally unacceptable on family oriented lists. Use of symbols should suffice -- as in d*#$. People get the idea. If you still feel compelled to address a potentially volatile issue, do so calmly, respectfully and in general, generic terms. It serves no purpose to hurl accusations, "name names" or refer to others with innuendos. I want to continue reading about stamp clubs, supplies, stamps, stamping, conventions, tips, techniques, great sale prices and all the other great things that make this a safe and fun place to be. I write not to provoke, but to calm the troubled waters. I write not with anger, but with love. If you disagree, I understand. But, bear in mind, my motives are pure. I want a safe, calm list. Please don't send me flame letters! I suffer from Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia and major recurrent depression. Three major reasons I look want a calm, safe list for all of us. With sincere wishes for happy stamping, caring and sharing, Kathleen - - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jan 1998 20:55:58 -0800 From: Shaunna Frasure Subject: Re: RubberTown: Apology to those who care Dear Mariann, I appreciate your graceful apology and I'm truly sorry you are having a bad day, but please. don't do anything rashly, that can be the biggest mistake. So I decided that the plastic cassette cases are perfect for storing the small ums I have like birds, grass, small clouds, little trees etc. The cassettes can be labelled with the categories (courtesy of the little sticker that always seems to stay inside the cassette) and it shuts tightly and stacks up very nicely so you can get a system going for all your small to medium sized ums. And putting the label on the spine of the cassette means you can always see the different categories on your shelf. Hmmm.... maybe all those blank video tape boxes lying around could hold the larger ums..... better go and do more tidying up :) Daisy - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 07:11:11 EST From: tntrilling@juno.com (Tonya L. I ve been trying to get my ISP to check it out but so far to no avail. I also have not been getting a lot of feedback lately on the list so I assumed everything was going OK since I haven t really been reading what is on the list. There are a few reminders and rules I want to stress at this time. 1. Please do not post TANs. Only rubberstamp related discussions are welcome including swaps, secret stampers, etc. Just remember to think twice before sending a message to the entire list when it might be better suited to go to just one person. (eg. thank you's, me too's, etc.) Going over the past messages I haven t noticed too much of a problem but please be aware of it. 2. Please refrain from cross posting to the Rubberstampers Mailing List using CC. If you have to send your message to both lists, please send two separate messages. People replying to cross postings end up replying to both lists and it just gets very messy with messages with multiple RubberTown & RS headings. 3. I ve mentioned this before and I ll mention it again because it s quite important. Please don't flame a fellow member for breaking the rules. Let me know and I'll handle it quietly, discreetly and with as little fuss to the list as possible. Nothing generates more useless mail then members fighting over sending useless mail. Thanks to those giving me feedback and keeping me up on what s happening on the list. Hopefully I ll have digest working within a week. Please keep the feedback coming. Also state you are commenting on the RubberTown mailing list since I get alot of questions about the Rubberstampers mailing list too. John jmabunga@xmission.com John D. How do you go about putting printing on your cards? I know a lot of people are into calligraphy but I've seen cards with what looks to be *very* professional type that isn't pasted in (such as printed on a computer and pasted on) or done by hand. Is there some sort of little card printing press available? Okay, spill. I want secrets here... :D - -giselle P.S. I just got my HALOS system yesterday -- it is WAY COOL! I love it. I want to peel all my stamps off blocks and velcro them! If there's anyone out there considering it, think about this: you can mount multiply stamps on a plexiglass block and not only print an entire card at the same time but actually see the placement of the stamps too! - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 08:31:33 EST From: Wolfenhnd Subject: Re: RubberTown:Where we are at. Is there some sort of little card printing press >available? giselle, If I don't have the *perfect* phrase stamp, I go into my Print Artist program and choose greeting card...then use the blank template. If I choose Views FRONT and INSIDE RIGHT, I can print one sheet of cardstock with my greeting on the inside, where it belongs. =) You can do several of one phrase if you like, or each different. This allows you to choose your own font, too, and often you can find one *just* like the one that you liked at the convention and forgot to buy. =) Another idea is to choose a business card layout and print your phrase many times onto paper vs. cardstock. This gives you a multitude of the same phrase to allow you to incorporate it into other work, like collage. Good luck!! :) Mary - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 08:55:54 EST From: ISTMP2 Subject: Re: RubberTown: Take a Hike Lists ...anyone else happen to be reminded of various *publicity stunts*...? - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 08:12:38 From: Craig & Ann Subject: Re: RubberTown: Issues I don't think anyone is in charge of it anymore.
