I got the most beautiful and unique cards in the Asian/Oriental/Egyptian swap this week! My desciptions won't do them justice, but here goes... Ms.Hare - A nice Egyptian card - one of my favorite themes! She stamped an Egyptian sphinx and rat in the center of cream cardstock, masked, and then stamped the large Judi-Kins hieroglyphics background stamp over top. This was then layered onto a grey card. Nice job! Thanks! Barbara Thompson - A terrific Egyptian pop-up card using black cardstock. On the front she has a background paper she made using various colors of ink dabbed on bubble plastic and "stamped" on cream cardstock. Then she sprayed over top of this "bubble stamped" paper with black webbing spray. The focal point on the front is an Egyptian pyramid postoid stamped in black on cream cardstock which is layered on black cardstock. She mounted this image over a gold diagonal strip piece, a black feather and gold cording over the "bubble stamped" paper. Inside she has stamped hieroglypics on cream cardstock and adhered to the inside of the black card. The pop-up image is a large Egyptian-styled Eagle stamped in turquoise and clear embossed. Very, very nice - thanks Barbara! Anne Stone - A very pretty Oriental card! The focal point is a stamp of a Japaneese woman which was stamped on white cardstock and colored with markers, then layered onto black and then gold cardstocks. Anne mounted this on black cardstock that had been prepared with a background of flowers stamped in gold. Thanks so much, Anne! Cheryl Helm - Georgeous oriental card displaying various coordinated layers of background cardstocks (some gold embossed and/or sprayed with gold webbing spray) and printed silken rice paper - Dark plum, Light plum, Turquoise. The focal point is an oriental stamp of a fan which is gold embossed on white cardstock, colored with markers and dusted with Pearl-Ex. This image is layered onto gold cardstock and mounted over gold cording. This card is simply stunning - thanks Cheryl! Alicia Mullins - Beautiful oriental card with the focal point being two Kimonos (one red and one blue) stamped and silver embossed on Mulberry paper and mounted on white cardstock with green leaves stamped on background. Then she added a Japaneese lantern and Japanese border embossed in red. All layered onto blue notecard. This card is wonderful, thanks Alicia! And last but not least Sherri (host) - sent an envelope made of wallpaper with an oriental type design on it. Thanks Sherri for hosting this wonderful swap! I actually received it Thursday, but I haven't been able to get to the computer for very long. My hubby has been stressing about working on the Science Olympiad. He's been using the computer quite a bit lately so I haven't been able to get on. Sorry it took so long to acknowledge it. I received a beautiful card from Lisa Hedman. She stamped some pretty flowers on some Vellum. It looks as though they were stamped in white ink and then embossed with clear? The flowers were then colored violet and the leaves green, this was done from the back side of the vellum, giving it a softer look. In the center she stamped in violet, "Just Saying Hello." She then attached a piece of cream or light, pale yellow cs to it with a white ribbon. Inside it says, You've been Raked!" She then says that I was her first Rak! Thanks Lisa! I feel very honored and your card is very pretty. Robyn, you did a wonderful job. Not only that, she sent sheets of wallpaper. Oh, the ideas of what I can do with them are dancing around in my head. The first card was from Carole Mork. It was gold cs embossed with two birdhouses in what looks like hot pink. Covering up the bottom of the houses, is a round, white doiley. On top of that is a humming bird in a circle embossed onto a square cs in red. The next one was from Fran Ferrara. Hers was on hunter green cs. The next layer was white cs. On top of that was marble looking green cs. A birdhouse was embossed in red and white. Fran, you must tell me how you did that. The simplicity of it is wonderful. >From Bin Y., on top of brown cs, was a weave of some kind. Rafia was put at the bottom. On top of that was a birdhouse, 3-D'd. A fairy girl was holding onto the top and a 3-D'd bird was perched at the opening of the house. The inside of the card had some houses stamped down the side. Another card was received, but no name was put nor was who the manufacturer was of the stamp. It was of two birdhouses with sunflowers. This was colored in by pencil. Last, but not least, was a bird house from Arla Breshears. She sent directions on how to put it together. It's a little box and she gave me the roof and I have to put glue on the supports to hold it together. Arla, wherever did you find that neat little invention!? This was the first swap I attempted from the digest and I was surely pleased with what I got back in return. You all know that the *hostess with the mostest* is my daughter (Stampher2/Lisa Wynn) - after she gave me my 5 cards, she showed me all the cards she got and they were ALL wonderful! And I think we only counted 2 cards that used the same stamp - amazing! StampieJMSpegel@aol.com used navy cardstock, then layered yellow gingham background, more navy cardstock and then glued on 3 birdhouses that had been stamped and embossed on white cardstock. Really nice effect! Amy M stamped and embossed a girl with flowers on speckle cardstock - great jobon the coloring - very delicate looking! Karen stamped 3 flower baskets on parchment looking paper - one of the baskets has a lavender bow and Karen added a sheer lavender bow to the card for impact. Very nice! Michelle stamped a little girl with a hat on white cardstock and layered that onto gold cardstock - I love this stamp! Sherri S. stamped the teddy bear bee-keeper and a beehive on natural color cardstock - deckled the edges then glued this on some yellow beeswax (like you use for candles). This is all layered on dark green cardstock that's been randomly stamped with bees, bees and more bees! Then all of this has been layered on mustard colored cardstock - really a great job, Sherri! Tamara Brundridge did the cutest card - image of a leprechaun dancing for joy at finding the pot o' gold! Who makes this stamp? She stamped this on off-white cardstock and layered it on green (of course!) cardstock - great job on the coloring too! Becci made the neatest envelope type card - the card folds up and is its own envelope - so cool! I can't wait to try this for the grandkids. Inside the is a huge pot of gold - gold is literally oozing out of it. Great idea here, Becci! Linda Farrell made a bright *kelly* green card - on the front of the card is huge black pot with green shamrock confettis spilling out of it and a glittery rainbow inside a big gold shamrock. A lot of work went into this - - good work, Linda! From hazelplul@aol.com - An explosion card! I tried to make one a couple of weeks ago and just couldn't get it - now that I have a *living* example, I'm going to try it again! The front of her card shows a teeny leprechaun dancint through flowers - great job on the coloring and the sponging! You've really inspired me with the explosion inside! Thanks! This time she made a tiny book - it's covered with heavy green mulberry paper; on the front there's a celtic square stamp embossed (in copper ep). To close the book, she used green cording and on the inside of the book I found the *Irish Blessing*. This is so great, Laurie, and I know it took a lot of time and effort! Then, not to be outdone, of course, our Ant Judy made little thank you notes - green shamrocks and *thank you* on white cardstock. This was placed inside a little green envy with a super medallion (from Friendly Plastic) on the front and I know she used metallic rub-on's to edge the envy. Very creative! I know I probably didn't do justice to the cards and my descriptions are not always the best BUT these were great cards and I loved getting all of them! Thank you all so much! And thanks, AJ, for putting this swap together! I got one more card for the *Irish in Me* swap - this one was from DJ Troup. She (I'm assuming it was a *she*.) used green parchment type cardstock and she stamped and ep'd in green clusters of shamrocks on the front - one cluster is stamped and colored in green, cut out and mounted with foam tape on the front for a 3-dimensional look. Simple and really nice! Thanks, DJ and thanks to Judy for forwarding it on to me! The ep only sticks to the ink that way. Works every time and has never left anything on the card. If you have posted a message but not got a personal reply from me... please send it again to my email address. What I would like to know is whether anyone going to these conventions might be looking to share accommodation with an out of towner (meaning me!) for either conventions. I'm looking for 3 or 4 days of share accommodation with someone who may also be going to the Carson convention and 1 night for the Portland one. I am well behaved but do get very excited about stamping. Please email me personally so I see your message quicker (I'm only on Rubbertown). Thank you again everyone... you have all been wonderful help to this Aussie stamper.
