Nielsen" Subject: RubberTown: Technique with Marvy Metallics Try this, the result is awesome: Get a small spray bottle - mine is the trial size of hairspray (non-aerosol - - 40 ml). Fill the bottle with water and add just a small pinch of any of the Pearl-X interference powders. Take a piece of glossy cardstock (I only have white but I bet this would be even more awesome with black!) and spritz it so that there is a thin film of water all over the card (this is more than just a sprinkling). Now take a Marvy Metallic marker and just touch the tip to the water here and there and immediately spritz again. (If you don't spritz immediately, the colour will tend to pool and you'll end up with a polka dotty look - which might appeal to you.) Now take a hair dryer or a heat gun and aim it across the card at a low angle so you are moving the film of water about. Keep doing this till the card is pretty much dry. Now repeat the above steps with a second colour - spritz, touch with colour, spritz again and move the colour about with a blast of air. Repeat with a third colour - if you like - I liked it best with just two colours. The result is a soft, shimmery look - like shot silk. The interference powder gives it that mysterious look of even more colours than you actually used but all are so soft and silky. Anyone who tries it - let me know the result. Love to know how it works on coloured glossy cardstock. Anna - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 21:31:49 -0500 From: tntrilling@juno.com (Tonya L. From Barbara Simpson (CatStamPurr) - this booklet is done with a heavy cardstock cover and a ribbon enclosure - and an indian chief postoid on the front cover. Inside, on each page, are different images of indian chiefs - on what looks like sponged backgrounds? This is really neat, Barbara! From ? (no name listed) - an accordian style book with a different type of ribbon enclosure - I really like this and how the pony beads were used almost like a slide closure. Heavy blue cardstock cover with bright yellow pages - I like this style! Robin Cramer (missy@ctaz.com) - I love how you bound this using the branch! I don't know how to describe this, but she used black glossy cardstock (I think) that's been corrugated for the binding, but then uses a branch, woven with string, to hold the pages together. Ok, maybe that doesn't make sense, but it looks so cool! Confetti red cardstock cover, with an embossed southwestern style pot on the front. I really like the imagination used here, Robin! Lisa Howard (winterrose@juno.com) - another really cool book - the cover uses exotic paper - with a collage on top made up of buttons, beads, and mulberry paper. The inside is a compilation of quotes from different books, done in some kind of star design - oh, I've seen these before and can't remember what it's called. Anyway, Lisa definitely spent alot of time doing each page and folding them correctly to make them all fit together so well - I love this, Lisa! Linda Edwards (jadeite@pobox.alaska.net) - I fell in love with this one immediately! I love the petroglyphs you used, Linda! This booklet has a cover using wallpaper, but on top of this Linda has layered all different papers with petroglyph images stamped on them, and some neat leaf shapes (did you use a punch for these?) - then on top of this she used paperclay that had been stamped with a kokepelli. She then rubbed pearl ex powders on the clay - I have got to find some of this stuff and play around with it! Linda, you've got to tell me more about this paperclay and how you did it... THanks again, Kari!! Lynette - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Mar 1998 00:01:33 -0800 From: Joy Gross Subject: RubberTown: * * * * * * * * * * * Out of Town until Sunday Night!! Exotics are special papers often (though not always) handmade. Most of the papers I have seen tonight are absolutely beautiful. They can range from special textured mulberry papers (in many colors), to swirled metallics. The papers can be very thick and can be made from unusual materials, like banana fibers, or a fiber like material that is called bird's nest (and it looks like a nest). There is a paper that looks like bark (it is actually papyrus) there are also elegant looking lacy papers and stunning 3 dimensional looking papers. I have not even described a small portion of what I have seen.....but the collage potential with these papers is very exciting!! I hope I have helped answer your question.
