(I like discussions!) On december 15th George Borow told me: Patrick Stewart signed only 200 Jonathan Frakes, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, Alfre Woodard and Daniel Hugh Kelley all signed 300 Catherine Hicks, signed between 400-500 All the rest signed at least 1000 Your numbers might be fine, with the exception of Schultz. Not to dispute you, Jeff, or this George Borow, but that Schultz only signed 300 came from Dwight himself. For Cinema 2000 Dwight insists he only signed 300, as contracted. On the other end, Jane Wyatt, being new to signing for money, signed all 1200 that were sent to her! As well, Anthony Zerbe signed a much higher number than 1000. The mystery number, I think is A10. Laurence Luckinbill. I've no bead on how many he signed, but I have a feeling it was closer to the 500 range. I know the initial problem was in case breakdown rather than signings; cases hitting the east coast, for some reason had none, which led people at a NYC convention the weekend after their release to doubt that he had signed at all! :) He seems to be a reasonable break everywhere else, though. Recently, Ebay added pretty little pictures that display when you do a search..a smaller version, I guess, of what the seller uses in the auction. Recently, in my searches (for example if I do a search on ST cards), I got tons of those stupid I'm LEAVING EBAY or MY WIFE FREAKED WHEN SHE SAW THIS CD's...well, that's not new, I always get those CD's to show up when I do searches, what's new is the pictures of half clad ladies that show up in my searches now...one is particularly less then even half clad.... On any given page of returned searches 3/4's are these junk CD's with these pictures so I gotta scroll through oodles of this not so *G rated* (or even remotely related to Trek) stuff... Now, ok, I'ma girl and most users may be boys and LIKE to see that stuff, but I don't and it bothers me. Am I just being a fuddy duddy or do I have the right not to see this? I mean, if I were in the specific category, sure I gotta take my chances, but there's got to be a way to keep this stuff outta searches that have nothing to do with the *ahem* product being offered..what if some kid is doing a search on Trek cards..he's gonna see that..heck, I don't want my girls around when I do searches these days... Have you seen it and I so, what do you think? Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html KLM Enterprises, Inc. Home of the Trek Card Geek! They were in the minature section. It contained The Enterprise E, Voyager, and Defiant. They are small enough to hang on the DS9 Station ornament. It was $14.95 for the set. My tree is pretty decked out as well. I only do the ships but I do both Star Trek and Star Wars so it takes me awhile to put them up. I have that AVI file for anybody that's interested. It looks like something that might of been on entertainment tonight. The codec for it is here. PLEASE consider purchasing a virus protection program. Visit either http://www.symantec.com/ or http://www.symantec.com/ for a trial run. I use Nortoan Antivirus myself. I had two emails come through last night with viruses, both of which were caught. It isn't perfect, some may still peek though, but it sure helps and after my little experience with the virus that devastated my machine last time, I KNOW how easy it is to oops and get infected!! Does she continue to preorder a product that by the time it gets released, some dude on Ebay has already flooded the market with sales of inserts (some that end up not even existing) sets, binders, autos etc....I have felt SO discouraged by all the presales that a part of me thinks why bother?? Heck, there's a big nursing shortage in my area...maybe I'd be better off going back to work!?!!! So, tell me, what ya think? I have continue over the years to maintain a nice sold base of collectors who purchase boxes from me and as of yet, noone has changed anything based on presales. What I wonder about is what about the boxes I bought to break and resell the inserts. I won't know what this insanity on Ebay will do to that portion of my sales until likely after I have to make a decision about TOS. I won't presell inserts like that, I gotta do it my way or not at all...;) Lynne Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html KLM Enterprises, Inc. Home of the Trek Card Geek! The dealer has to promise to deliver something they don't have, and the buyer doesn't know the market value yet. I stopped buying boxes when SkyBox couldn't guarantee a complete basic set in a box, and created too many rare (and expensive to collect) chase cards. Heck, they couldn't even guarantee an autograph in every box by the end. I think factory sets and mini-master sets are boring (witness the Cinema cards ST I-VI), but completists need to have some reasonable expectation of being able to make a set. Thank goodness for TrekTrade where we can swap singles as well as chase cards and variations (ugh). ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- Reply-To: TrekChat@lists.xmission.com > >It's time to take preorders ((!!!!!)) for the next Rittenhouse >product, Just checked their site...what does a girl DO? >Does she continue to preorder a product that by the time it gets >released, some dude on Ebay has already flooded the market with >sales of inserts (some that end up not even existing) sets, >binders, autos etc....I have felt SO discouraged by all the >presales that a part of me thinks why bother?? I mean they make and offer the product, but they don't determine what happens after. And the dealer has the choice on how he sells it, the buyer can chose not to buy something until he DOES have an idea of value (though most of us feel with low print runs items we gotta get 'em while they are hot... What amazes me is that Ebay lets this dude presell for 4 or 5 months before a release date...but he ain't slowed down yet. There is not enough profit in box presales to make it the bulk of my business, I gotta be able to turn a profit on insert cards, but this glut of inserts means anyone who will really wanna buy 'em and maybe pay a decent price is already scarfed up. I will end up laying out around $10,000 upfront for WIV, I need more a 5% markup overall to make it worthwhile and I don't *think* that makes me greedy.
