I suspect at least a few others on the list will also be interested. So far I have gotten them from every state. All I have heard so far is that the tickets are $3 each, but I do not know how many there are. If you are willing to obtain them, I would pay in advance, cover postage, and even throw in a few dollars extra for your trouble. I tear the tickets apart at the perforations to put them in a card album. That makes it easier to mail them. Some people prefer to keep them in strips of a full set, which can complicate the packaging and increase the cost of postage, so if you offer this to others you should be sure to find out which way they will want it. Anyway, please let me know if you would be willing to do this. Hi, Lois, If you could find out how many there are and let us know the total cost (include appropriate poatage and a couple of bucks for our time and trouble), I'm sure several folks would appreciate getting a set. THen again, folowing that logic, the Captain's card should be fairly low priced as well? Even if one to a case? THe 7 of 9 card, I am surprised at the value of it at $10, a card in 1 in 144 packs, I expected it to average more then a gold plaque from Phase I ($35), but less then a Skymotion ($50), what I am seeing is $10 and I am startled by that. First off , you'll have to excuse my sniffling . I just found out that I had a box with one of the ultra rare "Y" contest cards in my hands... and I SOLD IT!!!!!! WAAAHHH!!! Actually, I'm thrilled for Jeff... Congrats! I've been getting some reports back on boxes of Voyagers Profiles that I sold. Seems many people are not even getting a complete common set from a box. One of my customers was 15 cards short to complete a common set. I've had just the opposite results in the boxes I've opened. I've sorted each box as I go and always have been able to complete 2 full common sets from each and then another set every 2-3 boxes with the extras for a total of 27 common sets. How are the rest of you doing? On autograph cards I have to say I've been super duper lucky and probably found something none of us will ever see again. Eight boxes had the promised 1 autograph card and two boxes had 3 auto cards. Now that stats on this last box are going to amaze you all (I know it did me!). I found not 1, not 3 and not even 5, but a total of 13 autograph cards. I was stunned! It was really weird opening pack after pack with another auto showing up in many of them. Most of them didn't have a challenge card and there was some duplication of auto's, but I'm not complaining . (Now I don't feel so sad about giving that "Y" card away). So far out of 27 auto's I'm still missing 5 to complete my set of 20. You guys are getting episodes and autographs mixed up. Number of episodes has nothing to do with it as there wasn't an autograph per episode. Season 1 - 16,000 boxes - 29 Episodes - 26 autograph cards Season 2 - 22,000 boxes - 26 Episodes - 32 autograph cards If you go strictly off the box count and their promise of 1 auto per box that makes: Season 1 - 615 of each auto Season 2 - 687 of each auto This doesn't take into account the short print auto's (A1, A23, A25, A27, A30, A31) which had fewer than that of each meaning the others had more than that. But overall the number of each common auto isn't that much higher in Season 2 than it was in Season 1 because of the greater number of auto's. So why do I think Season 2 auto's are easier to find? I can only think of one reason... There aren't as many in the market. The key word here is "market" and has nothing to do with the number produced. So where are all the Season 1 auto's??? I have three ideas on this. 1. Still in sealed boxes people are holding. 2. Being held by people waiting for value to go up. 3. Lost (or stolen). I'll explain #3. Skybox originally stated that there were 400 of the short prints (A1, A23, A26) and 800 of the others inserted into boxes (another 100 short prints and 200 commons were held out for replacement and contests.) That makes (3x400 + 23x800) 19,600 auto's supposedly inserted into boxes. Divide 16,000 boxes (576,000 packs) by 19,600 and you find a ratio of 1 in 29.4. If you check a TOS1 box you'll find they stated a ratio of 1 in 30. That means if you opened a case of 20 boxes you should average 24 auto's. This wasn't even close though. I personally broke down three cases with 19 in two of them and 20 in the other. Another guy on the net was collecting stats from case buyers and tracked over 50 cases and none of them had over 20 auto's with the average only being 19.1 auto's per case. Using the 20 per case (instead of the lower 19.1) means 16,000 auto's in boxes but odds stated 19,600 should be found??? So what happened to the other 3,600 auto's??? If you use the 19.1 as a base per case the missing number of auto's jumps to 4,320! That's alot of autograph cards to be unaccounted for and Skybox has never been able to (or won't) give an explanation for this. -J!m mailto:encore@xmission.com To Unsubscribe from TrekChat send and put "unsubscribe trekchat" in the body without the quotes. -- Previous message archives are available via WWW at: or via FTP at: ftp.xmission.com --in-- /home/ftp/pub/lists/trekchat/archive ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Lynne Stewart Subject: (TrekChat) Sc-Fi Channel "Amok TImes" Date: 13 Oct 1998 23:26:59 -0400 Archive and Unsubscribe information can be found at the bottom of this message. -- Evryone see my web-site's namesake on Sci Fi channel last night?? I thought I had mailed the list with my feelings about this set and...skybox...let me try again... this is a long one...and yeah..I stand upon a soapbox. To me the set has a few draw backs... two chase sets at the same insert ratio??? Skybox has too much card stock lying around?? A card for one of these subsets is a special rare card?? (#7)?? Why? why so complicated? A captains card...to complete the 4 card Captains set...you have to make sure you invest (in some way) in the upcoming sets with the other 3. So, I watch the 9-14 y/0 kids in the card stores....what do they buy...? sports cards or CCG. Some buy the comic cards..and a few fantasy..but ST all seems to go to the collector. So SKYBOX (being in it for the money) has invented the ultimate chase scam....c'mon...what business would not love to have the product sold out before they even manufacture it?? Every time....no matter what? hmmm... looks like with TNG gone and DSN in it's last season (neither DSN or VOY pulling in ratings...) How much life is left in the 'ol franchise we all know and love? SKYBOX is smart, they play the odds....If you know 80-90% of the product will be bought and used up in the first day of issue... how can you not make money...How many more sets can you make based on a limited and shrinking market...I say shrinking because I will not be doing voyager anymore and I doubt they will have the cash flow to do a DSN by season (maybe when a new ST series hits TV???). So, for me... TOS 3 will be about it...I refuse to collect the auto or G cards (I may finish the G's from TOS I, I have a bunch now). And maybe I will invest in a DSN set if they do another..why not? they have a year.. I will prob buy sets and some chase to VOY (if they look cool)but no more boxes....I would, of course, fall like a sucker for a TAS set... but I am only human. and of course the new movie...wow I can't wait to have another "DATA" like card I will never own. Which autographs, if any, will be short runs for Voyager Profiles? Nobody is very short. The shortest is about 800 cards. The average is 1000. Those with 800 cards: Robt. Picardo, Robt. McNeill, Josh Clark, John Delancie, Jennifer Lien, Garrett Wang, Tim Russ, Ethan Phillips. The most plentiful are: Kate Mulgrew and Michael McKean. I mean, the only thing positive to any set is creativity. Being different is a good thing! I do not consider changing ratios or making one card of a subset embossed or metallic. What part is so creative? The math? :) Skybox thought the mirror cards would go on the market for $100, was floored that ONE card in a case, could pay ofr a good chink of the case right there. So,I think they tend to not be as aware of the market and I think they can easily miss the boat, even with us telling them things. And tell me, those of you who have given up or cut back... and I know there are a few on this list.....have you told them why? They need to if someone is leaving.... OK...whew, where to start...So I should believe SKYBOX has no idea about how the market place works??? Sheesh, they have one thing on the mind. Sell cases....make an ultra rare and boom cases fly out the door. They should care very little what a card does after market. Why should they? My god...not aware as they should be??? perhaps it is time to get out of the market. This is the 90's they are perfectly aware. The amount of information and resources is staggering. Ebay, Ad's in the trade mags, trade lists, direct mail, survey cards, phone in, emails... sorry ignorance is no excuse. They sell cases to a few 100 people..maybe less with the latest auto strategy, and they can sett sets and disperse the extra chase cards. This from the SKYBOX point of view is glorious. I mean to get the product out and done with in one day??? man dream product. And lastly, I don't feel like discussing my cutting back and getting yet another form letter saying nothing. Since they are so unaware.. they won't miss me. Ya know...I bought all the cards...sets...boxes... frankly they forced out all but the big collector. Pity. > They do what they do for a simple, responsible reason. No mystery. > Please don't act like SKYBOX does not KNOW about card collecting... > remeber the pitch for the auto's in the first TOS set. Catering to everyone. > well....everyone with enough monet to buy out a product before it ships. Absolutely, Skybox makes cards to make money. They gotta produce product that sells. And currently, these high end things are selling. no...they are selling on the secondary market, STAR TREK is selling. as always...to make a quick profit and move on. I agree and I think it's going to make it hard to convince them that it will be hard on the smaller collector to keep up, I doubt those who buy everything and all (which includes myself, I suppose, since i show little discrimination in what i buy :snicker:) will be able to maintain the sales they are looking for all by their lonesome. > > > And lastly, I don't feel like discussing my cutting back and getting > yet another form letter saying nothing. Each of the four will contain four First Contact black-bordered limited edition expansion packs. In addition, each of the four different EFC packs will contain its own 3 new unique cards, making 12 brand new cards introduced in the product in all. The majority are Borg-related cards, though a few will enhance the Federation affiliation. The Enhanced First Contact pack design will have a die-cut front, revealing the lead card, so that in each display of 12 packs, you will see 3 each of the 4 pack facings. One issue was the overabundence in a few boxes with autographs..... They have yet to determine HOW these super boxes happened. Alot of the sorting process is mechanical (and not done by Skybox, but by a company they contact. Steve C mentioned he had never seen the process himself, since it is done in Dallas. Anyone wanna chip towards a plane ticket, I'd love to see!!) He said though there have been some *firm* calls back and forth they have no answer as to how, one thought being that they had extras and decided to toss them all in at the end of the run. That would explain why they seem all centered on one case, though the 13 auto box wasn't part of that super case...in any case, I think they would like the collector who get them to consider themselves lucky and work towards it not happeneing again...;) Pity, I wouldnt mind a 'hot box' hehehehee.
