Press Release (Not!!!--I am having fun) Saturday December 18,1999; 11:31 am PST ---Associated Press-Long Beach,CA--- It has been announced today that there will be a fight of the Century in Long Beach or Salt Lake City. The place has yet to be determined, but the chances are that it will be in Long Beach. This Wednesday night the Utah Grizzlies play visit to the Long Beach Ice Dogs, two players have been having bouts throughout the year, starting with a sucker punch to Claude Bovin by Vukota. Both of the players had been suspended and fined and undisclosed amount of money. As the suspensions ended it was on inevitable that these two would face off again, this time again in Utah. After one of the Utah vs Long Beach games the two players met again, this time off the ice and in the restaurant at the Grizzlies arena. These two strange, physical players have agreed to meet again, this time speculation is they will meet at the Long Beach Arena this Wednesday night, on their first shift on the ice together. A security leak has said, this will not be so, as they will face off in a rink by themselves to settle this dispute once and for all, and to settle who the true heavy weight of the rink will be. Many fans of both teams have grown weary and tired of this idiotic dispute. They have suggested that they take it to the rink (ring) and box each other. Rumors have it that Don King would come to advertise the fight and that Jesse Ventura would ref the fight. This could be a good opportunity to get the IHL name out in the community. If this is to come into being you might want to check with your local cable company and sign up for the pay per view event of the century. I, personally, can't remember a season since the Grizz came to Utah, that Goring didn't miss a game or two. That's not to say that because Goring did, Bourne should. I think what got to me about Goring being gone, was that it came at what seemed to be a key game or series in the schedule. You know, a team we were trailing by a point or two, or, just barely ahead of by a point or two. I don't know, sometimes I think I, as just a fan, get too wrapped up in what ultimately is just a game. Then sometimes, I feel as you do, he's hired to coach, and short of serious illness or death in the family, he should be behind the bench. To be quite honest, I think the problems that exist with this team can not be remedied even if our head coach was the great Scotty Bowman. That's not to say that because of that, our head coach should just come & go as he pleases, but, that's a decision that is made between Bob Bourne & Tim Mouser. But, back to the hockey end of this, I just don't feel that you can coach "finishing a play off". We've got key guys that just don't have that instinct, and I for one, am so tired of hearing Ian say that so-n-so "fanned on the shot" or "couldn't get a stick on it" or "lost it in his skates" or "sent it wide of an empty net" or "put it right in the goalies pads/glove/blocker". I am convinced that we've got guys that just CAN NOT FINISH A PLAY. And the really bad part is that, like I've already stated, you've either got that killer instinct, or you don't, but it can't be coached into a player. Is it the end of the world? For me, no!! I really like this team, as a hockey club & individually as people and I'll support them to the last second of the last game of the season. Can we win a championship? You bet we can!! Every team has shortcomings that have to be overcome with shear grit & determination in other aspects of the game. But this issue of Bourne being gone, to me, doesn't have a whole lot to do with what is immediately wrong with this team. How about Park's hat-trick & being named the #1 star in a dismal 6-4 loss. He must have played his ass off to get the nod from the KC media. Way to go Richard!! GO GRIZZ, kick some LB butt!!
