Could we get a list of Smiths stores that are going to carry the
displays? Last year I went to 8 different Smiths stores, from Magna to
the 9th east Smiths, and
never found a single display. Did you ever see one?

It's funny how everyone seems to be the expert on what we're doing or
have done
here with the Grizzlies. FYI...we ordered two sets of the Retro
Jerseys. One
went to the winners of the Smith's drawing and the other set was
auctioned at
the Players Award Banquet. We did the same thing this year with the
Eagles
jerseys. You'll have two chances to get the jersey from your favorite
player.

If the jerseys were awarded to fans who submitted entry forms at Smith's

I don't think I have ever seen fans who think they are
owed as much as Grizz fans. "Well I couldn't find it
last year *sob*..." Well obviously someone did since
they gave away all the jerseys.
If the folks in the office were not so sick of hearing
you people whine, they would probably give you an
explanation like this. It could be that Smith's and
Pepsi, as the sponsors of the promotion, are the ones
paying for the jerseys and they will give them out
they way they want to. It would probably figure that
Pepsi would be responsible for setting up the
displays, not the Grizzlies. I don't think that Ian or
Sarah ort Matthew are responsible for setting up
displays in stores. But that doesn't matter to you
people, since no explanation ever seems to be good
enough.
Now I remember why I stopped contributing to this
list...whiny ass fans like Alan and dave P who feel
the team owes them something and complain about it
constantly.

Subject: [UG] rumor on Bourne, dont know if its true or not
got this rumor from inthecrease.com
FEBRUARY 23, 2001
Former WPHL Coach Bob Bourne Rumored Headed to Florida
http://www.inthecrease.com/warrior/warrior_022301.html
by The Warrior
Just five seasons removed from leading the now-defunct Central Texas Stampede
to the President's Cup finals, Utah Grizzlies coach Bob Bourne is rumored to
be headed to the NHL to take over the head coaching duties of the
disappointing Florida Panthers.
Bourne, in his second season of coaching the Grizzlies, has been known as
players' coach during his three-plus seasons at the IHL level. Prior to
leading the Grizzlies, Bourne coached the Las Vegas Thunder prior to that
team's folding.
Bourne, a former member of the New York Islanders' championship teams in the
early 1980s, was earlier rumored to be headed back there to replace his
former teammate Butch Goring as head coach of the struggling Islanders.
Bourne would replace Duane Sutter, ironically a teammate of both Bourne's and
Goring's during the Islanders' magical four-year run as Stanley Cup
champions.
Panther general manager William Torrey spent 21 years with the New York
Islanders, the first 20 as general manager. He also handled the added roles
of president during the 1980s, so he is familiar with Bourne.
While the Grizzlies have hovered around .500 this season, Bourne led them to
45 victories last season. Bourne's laid-back style would work well with
today's player and he has shown that he is most effective when he is allowed
to coach his own players.
Both Bourne and Utah assistant coach Jason Taylor were unavailable for
comment.

Subject: [UG] Thanks for 1975
I just wanted to thank the Grizzlie staff for 1975 night. I loved dressing
in 1970's attire and watching the Grizzlies dress in the old Golden Eagles
uniforms. It think it is great how the Grizzlie organization still
recognizes the past hockey history in the state by honoring the Salt Lake
Golden Eagles with events like last Friday, hanging the championship banner
from the past 5 championships and periodically bringing ICY back. Just shows
what a great class organization we have. Keep up the good work Grizzlie
staff. I know you don't hear it much, but you all are truly appreciated.
Back to 70's night. The Grizzlie staff had some great costumes. I'm glad I
was able to be recognized by the judges again this year and as having a good
enough costume to be selected to go out on the ice to show my stuff. I just
wish the contest was for best costume and not a dance contest. I just can't
compete with guys who rip their pants. Anyway, I had a good time and I hope
70's night stays a tradition.

(Sorry if this is the second time i've posted this, i've been having mail
problems recently..)
Hi again grizz fans!
Just wanted to send a quick update from this side of the pond. Last
Sunday night Sparky and the rest of the Guildford Flames became British
National Ice Hockey League champions 2000/2001.
A one-point difference at the top of the league table seperated the Flames
and local rivals, the Basingstoke Bison, going into last nights match, the
last of the BNL league season. This meant Sunday's game was "winner take
all".
After a tough first and second period the score was just tight at 2-1 to
the Flames, with Sparky literally standing on his head to make some big
saves. In the third Guildford turned on the style, notching up three
unanswered goals to the delight of the capacity-filled Spectrum arena.
Best of luck to the Grizz for the rest of the season!
Regards,
Pete

Fleury enters treatment program
NEW YORK (AP) -- Theo Fleury , the New York Rangers
' leading scorer, has voluntarily entered an
in-patient substance-abuse program and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Details of the case were not revealed.
The NHL's announcement came after New York's pregame skate just hours before
the Rangers played the Florida Panthers at
home. Rangers officials were not immediately available for comment.
Under terms of the substance-abuse and behavioral-health program run by the
NHL and the players' association, the 32-year-old Fleury will continue to
receive his full salary and benefits. He will not have a penalty imposed as
long as he complies with the prescribed treatment and aftercare program.
The right wing was enjoying one of his finest NHL seasons, following one of
his worst.
Fleury leads the Rangers with 30 goals and 74 points in his second season
after coming to New York as a free agent. His pace has slowed recently, with
Fleury getting just four goals and nine assists in his last 17 games.
Last season, Fleury -- who has reached at least 30 goals eight times --
struggled with 15 goals and 64 points.
Fleury has 419 goals and 573 assists in a 13-year career. He spent 101/2
seasons with the Calgary Flames , before he was
traded to the Colorado Avalanche in 1999.
He signed a long-term contract with the Rangers after that season that pays
him about $8 million per year.

THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE
SA Hockey officials will not name any players for the 2002 Olympic team
in Salt Lake City until resolving a dispute about the U.S. Olympic
Committee's decision to do random drug tests on professional players
competing in the Olympics.
"We were not consulted with this issue; it hit us out of the blue," Bill
Daly, the NHL's vice president and chief legal officer, told The Salt Lake
Tribune. "We didn't know anything about it."
USA Hockey is accustomed to random drug testing because its female
players frequently are subjected to it, but Executive Director Doug
Palazzari says the men are in a different situation.
"The hockey players competing in the Olympics now are all members of the
[NHL Players Association] and participate in the NHL," he said. "That's two
other organizations that have to be a part of the mix. They have legitimate
concerns about how this affects their athletes."
The last thing NHL teams want is to have their star players go through
the anxiety of a drug test during the playoffs, 10 months before the
Olympics.
"Our organization will not name a player [to the Olympic team] until
this issue is resolved," Palazzari said.
Before the announcement, professional hockey, basketball and baseball
players were tested only after being selected to a U.S. Olympic team.
American athletes in other sports are subject to random tests any time
before the Olympics. The United States, along with the rest of the 2002
Olympic hockey teams, must name its first eight to 12 players for the Salt
Lake Games by March 25.
The recent decision allows athletes to be tested as soon as they are
named to the team.
"We'll go to their homes or practices or to their hotels to test them,"
Rich Young, general counsel for the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, told The
Associated Press. "We're looking for drugs that will enhance performance."
Testing will be primarily for steroids and drugs that mask steroids. The
athletes will not be tested for drugs such as marijuana or cocaine. Athletes
who refuse the tests will not be eligible for the Olympics.
"We're sending a message that we're serious about testing our athletes,"
Scott Blackmun, acting chief executive officer of the U.S. Olympic Committee
told the AP. "We want everybody to have some fear that they will be tested."
Daly talked with Blackmun on Tuesday and "came away pleased," he said.
"We will meet in the near future to see if these issues can be resolved and
what it means for NHL players. I have every confidence we are going to be
able to work something out. My primary concern is to make sure there
consists a protocol which applies to all NHL players."
Daly will be in Salt Lake City next week for a scheduled meeting about
the doping issue with representatives of the International Ice Hockey
Federation, NHLPA, IOC, SLOC and two doping agencies. It wasn't clear if a
representative of the USOC would attend the meeting.
"It was an important meeting to begin with. Now, it carries even more
importance," Daly said. "It has been a priority of ours to get these issues
resolved." We're sending a message that we're serious about testing our
athletes," Scott Blackmun, acting chief executive officer of the U.S.
Olympic Committee told the AP. "We want everybody to have some fear that
they will be tested.
