You are pretty much right on the nose there Sheri. As I recall though the
IHL also requires a list of players that are eligible to play for the team
in the playoffs. This list is limited in number and the players must meet
certain eligibility requirements but they do not have to be with the team
currently. Players that are not on that list are not eligible to play in the
playoffs for that team.

Michael,
I remember last year during the playoffs, we had a whole bunch of the boys(then it was Mich K-Wings) in the tunnels waiting ...just in case...maybe we will be so lucky this year! I remember destinctly Marty Turco playing football down there. Can the fans request who they want on THAT list??

Thank you for the input, Ian. Are you aware of any roster moves being worked
by the Grizz management or Dallas that will affect our team? I'm not asking
for names or organizations, only if there is anything going on that we might
hear about later on today. Thanks, again, for the information.

Rod finished his 1000th lap at about 5:10 and boy was he tired. The fund
raiser was a success although we didn't reach Rod's goal of $50,000. The
last count I heard was about $30,000.
It was enough that Rod said he plans on doing it again next year.

Just in case anyone is interested, Marty actually signed for the London
Knights here in the UK a couple of months ago before the end of the
transfer deadline (London is coached by Chris McSorley, Marty's brother).
Because of his (at that time still in effect) NHL ban, his case was
referred to the IIHF (the council who oversee hockey in Europe). They
are due to have a meeting on it this month. He is still under contract to
the Knights, but cannot play until the IIHF make a ruling.
Hopefully we may still see Marty over here in time for the UK league
playoffs.
Sorry if I've bored anyone, but i'm quite excited about the
possibility of seeing (imho) an NHL legend play here!

Grizz Shootout Woes Seal Manitoba's Win
Monday, March 19, 2001
THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE
MOOSE 3, GRIZZLIES 2 (SO)
More than a month ago, the Manitoba Moose contracted Utah Grizzlies
coach Bob Bourne and asked him to change a crazy IHL scheduling quirk that
had the Canadian hockey team playing three games in three nights.
Three games in 72 hours is not rare in the IHL, but playing the first at
home, traveling to Utah for the second, then returning to Winnipeg for the
third illustrates a lack of qualified proofreaders in the league offices.
Bourne turned down the Moose, hoping to take advantage of a tired team
on its home ice. Manitoba was not only playing its third game in as many
nights, but also its fourth in five. Bourne's strategy almost worked, but
Utah's ineptness in overtime and the shootouts, which follow when they end
tied, resulted in a 3-2 shootout loss Sunday before a crowd of 5,089 at the
Winnipeg Arena.
Manitoba (34-25-10) broke a six game winless streak and took over first
place in the Western Conference with the victory. Utah (32-32-6) earned one
point for the shootout loss and is in fourth place in the West, three points
behind Chicago.
Jon Sim scored his third goal in two games in the first period to give
Utah an early lead and then added an assist on Brad Lauer's goal early in
the third period to put the Grizzlies up again.
But the Moose responded 63 seconds after Lauer's goal during a 5-on-3
power play while John Erskine and Mark Wotton sat in the penalty box. Utah
managed to hold on through the end of regulation despite being outshot 13-6.
Utah goalie Mike Bales played a solid game, with 30 saves in regulation.
He then stopped five straight Manitoba players in the one-on-one breakaway
format the league uses to break ties before Rusty Fitzgerald got the puck
past him to win the game.
Once the game went to overtime, the Moose were already putting another
win in the standings. Utah hasn't scored an overtime goal since Yan Kaminsky
hit the net in a playoff game against the Kansas City Blades in the 1996-97
season.
The Grizzlies have been atrocious in shootouts this season. Only John
Purves (2-8) and David Ling (1-5) have beat a goalie on the penalty shot
scenario in the shootout. The team is 3-for-35 in shootout attempts and
somehow still managed to win two of the eight it has played this season.
GRIZZ NOTES: More than $10,000 was raised for the Muscular Dystrophy
Association of Utah as the Grizzlies auctioned their game-worn St. Patrick's
Day jerseys the team wore against the Moose on Saturday. Rookie defenseman
John Erskine brought in the highest bid at $625.

Dallas' Helenius, Sydor cut by blades of Phoenix players
DALLAS (AP) - Dallas defensemen Sami Helenius and Darryl Sydor were both
cut on the head by the skate blades of Phoenix players during Friday
night's 1-1 tie between the Stars and the Coyotes. Helenius was hit in
the forehead by the skate of Phoenix's Ladislav Nagy with 4:46 remaining
in regulation. Nagy was flipped in the air in front of the Dallas goal
and his skate struck Helenius' head. He did not return to the game
Helenius, who needed 30 stitches to close the cut, said the cut was so
deep that team medical personnel could see his skull. "I'm lucky it
didn't hit my eye," Helenius said. "When it happened, it didn't really
hurt. It hits you and you wonder what happened. When that happens, it
makes you think." Sydor was struck in the jaw by the skate of Phoenix's
Travis Green early in overtime. He left the game and did not return.
Dallas coach Ken Hitchcock said both players should be available for
Sunday's home game against Ottawa.
