Here's both sides of the Bourne-Metcalf story from what I've heard.
In the Grill after the game I talked to one of the guys who said Bob's
comments were "a little harsh". Bob was upset that Steve called Icing when
it was obviously not, costing us a scoring opportunity.
Steve's side of it was that Bob told him to "F******" repeatedly. Now
normally Steve takes a lot of abuse from coaches and players as well as fans
(even when he isn't there fans yell at him) and mostly he just lets it roll
off. It must have been pretty bad Friday night because he finally got fed up
and yelled "shut up" at Bob. It was then that the bench minor was assessed
for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Steve definitely makes bad calls on occasion and I doubt Bob would argue
that his conduct was "sportsmanlike". It is all water under the bridge now
anyway.

I don't know the answer to why the officials have started wearing their
names again. I personally like it since there are people in the section
where I sit that yell at Metcalf constantly whether or not it was his bad
call and whether or not he is even at the game. With the names on the
officials everybody gets to see just how stupid they sound, not just those
of us who know which zebra is Metcalf.
As for the 7:30 start time, I don't care for it. It makes it harder to bring
kids because the game just goes that much later. It makes it tighter to get
to the local restaurants for dessert afterwards, especially when the
officiating sucks and there are a lot of stoppages. And it's a little
difficult to remember that it's Friday so the game is a different time than
it is any other week night. Just my 2 cents.

I dont like the 7:30 starting time either. It does make it too late not only
for kids, but tired parents and workers.
I also believe with the late start, we could lose a few of the casual fans,
because by the time 7:30 gets here, many have already found other activities.
It is confusing for the fans who dont attend regulary, as i see many at work
who complain about the changing times. some have assumed they are all 7:30
and were way late to the week night games. This may be something the
Grizzlies staff will study up on and confirm if they want to continue this
next year.

Stars G Alban makes history with promotion
March 23, 2001
DALLAS (TICKER) -- When the Dallas
Stars recalled Chad Alban from the
Utah Grizzlies of the International
Hockey on Friday, the goaltender became
the answer to a trivia question.
Alban, who attended training camp
with the Stars before being assigned to the
minor leagues, is the first player
in West Coast Hockey League history to
progress to an NHL team in the same
season.
The 24-year-old started the season
with Grand Rapids of the International
Hockey League but was assigned to
Idaho of the WCHL on December 1,
2000.
He posted a 14-5-1 record with a
3.00 goals-against average in 20 games for
Idaho. In three games with Utah, he
was 2-1 with a 1.33 GAA.
Three of the WCHL's teams have
affiliations with NHL clubs. Idaho's direct
affiliate is the Grizzlies, who are
the Stars' minor-leagur club in the IHL.
With Stars goaltender Ed Belfour
day-to-day with back stiffness, Alban is
serving as a backup to Marty Turco
for Friday's game against the New York
Islanders.

Stars preview, notebook
03/25/2001
By Chuck Carlton / The Dallas Morning News
TV/RADIO: ESPN/ WBAP-AM 820
SERIES: The Blues lead 100-79-40.
ABOUT THE BLUES: The Blues were once threatening to
run away
with the Presidents' Trophy and had an outside
chance at Detroit's record
of 62 victories. Then came the injuries, with Al
MacInnis, Chris Pronger
and Pavol Demitra, among others, going down. The
Blues' 5-1 home
victory Saturday over Chicago ended a 1-7-3 skid.
MacInnis, who missed
23 games with a problematic eye injury, had a goal
and two assists in his
third game back in the lineup. The Stars will get
their first look at LW
Keith Tkachuk in a Blues uniform. The former Phoenix
Coyotes captain
had a goal and an assist against Chicago in his best
game since being
acquired at the March 13 trade deadline.
GOALIES: Ed Belfour (31-20-6, 2.36 GAA) will start
for the Stars if his
stiff back cooperates. If not, look for Marty Turco
(12-6-0, 1.89 GAA).
The Stars have allowed only four goals in their
six-game unbeaten streak.
The Blues are struggling in goal. Rookie Brent
Johnson (19-8-2, 2.10
GAA) is 3-6-2 in his last 10 starts. Former Star
Roman Turek (21-16-8,
2.40 GAA) beat Chicago, but he is 3-7-2 in his last
12 starts. Turek is
3-0-1 lifetime against the Stars.
* * *
Belfour better
The mild stiff back that sidelined Ed Belfour on
Friday continued to
improve Saturday, even though Belfour didn't
practice.
"I think it's OK," Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said.
"We certainly would like
Eddie to play against St. Louis. [The injury] isn't
bad at all." If Belfour
needs another game off, Marty Turco will start,
backed up by minor league
call-up Mike Bales.

Subject: RE: [UG] changing the starting times
Here's my 2 cents worth:
I prefer the earlier start time. I have a 2-year-old son, and the late start
time means it's 11:30 before I get him home to Kaysville and into bed.
Therefore, I'm not wild about it.
If I didn't have a child, I'd be fine with the late start time, although it
did take a few weeks to get used to it at the beginning of the season. (We
kept showing up early for weekend games, which is highly unusual of us!)
Inconsistency is almost always a bad thing, just because we humans are
creatures of habit and we tend to get mad if our routine changes, even
slightly. Having all the games start at the same time is probably a smarter
move and will irritate fewer people.
I think just about anyone with kids would prefer the earlier time. (I can't
think of anyone who enjoys keeping their kids up late!) So that's my vote.
I'm sure the staff tried the alternative start times this year because of
fan feedback from last year, so I congratulate them for being willing to try
new ways to appease the fans. The only way to find out if something works is
to try it, after all. And we are, if this list is any indication, a hard
bunch of fans to keep happy!
Kelley (a happy season ticket holder)

game
I know the kid issues we like our teenager home before 11 but----
if I had younger ones I'd leave early (everyone else does) and listen
to the rest or get a sitter and get to enjoy the game, I hated trying to
keep my bored kid occupied, probably missed most of the game!!!
and what about Sunday games-- i would prefer an earlier afternoon start
like 2 or 2:30 rather than 5 ??????
do we know the reason for the different times?????? an experiment
perhaps???
whatever the final decision is I don't plan on giving up my season

I am surprised to actually have a couple of people agree with me on the
early start time. Regarding the kid issue...I know I am opening a HUGE can
of worms here, but I am all in favor of the sitter! There is nothing worse
than paying to watch a game and instead being distracted and annoyed by
hyperactive kids. To all those parents that actually supervise their kids
and expect appropriate behavior (esp. sitting in a chair and not spinning on
the hand rails), THANK YOU! Those of us who do not have kids appreciate it.
Unfortunately, it seems to me that there are a large number of parents who
send their kids to lower seats far away in order for the parents to enjoy
the game. That just shows a great lack of respect for other people. I know
this seems to come out of nowhere, but I am at my breaking point of
irresponsible parents who seem to have no respect for those of us who do not
share the opinion that their kids are "adorable". Thanks for the venting
space. For innocent bystanders on the list duck before the attacks on my
character start flying.
