From: Robert Harper Subject: (utah-sailing) Members' cup results Date: 04 Apr 2004 14:44:14 -0600 The "Members' Cup" has been sailed. The win was blowing out of the East at 15 to 20 knots until start time. Within one minute of the start the wind abruptly switched and blew out of the North at 5 to 12 knots. The race was fourteen miles in length and was sailed in less than three hours by about half of the fleet. Tomcat was the runaway winner with several other boats showing early season jitters. I'll show the corrected time difference. The full details are posted at the yacht club. The results are as follows: Place Boat Time Fleet 1 Tomcat 00:00:00 A 2 Forty-Two 00:05:07 B 3 Zendo 00:06:01 B 4 Adios 00:12:01 B 5 Narragansett 00:14:44 B 6 Que Pasa 00:20:01 A 7 Kairos 00:32:59 B 8 Pack-a-Lunch 00:42:19 A Com Wasabi Thank you all for coming out. Those who did not make it, you missed a perfect day. The next race will be the first of the spring series Saturday, April 17. Skippers' meeting will be at 10:30 AM at the yacht club. I try to have some coffee ready for those needing a little eye opener. The first race will start at 12:00. Be on time because fashionable late is S.O.L. -- Don't be good... HAVE LOTS OF FUN! Extra "Empty Space" wins the Dealers' Cup Date: 26 Apr 2004 06:10:39 -0600 That's right folks. "Empty Space" edged "Euphoria" by six minutes and thirty-eight second on corrected time. They put in a stunning performance, finishing ahead of the rest of "B" fleet boat for boat. Very good job skipper and crew! Now for the details. Again I will only show corrected time. Boat Time Place _________________________________________________ Empty Space 5:35:50 1 Euphoria 5:42:28 2 Houdini 5:46:34 3 Naragansett 6:04:19 4 Abraxas 6:07:17 5 The committee boat was "Wasabi". The race was scheduled for 18 miles but was shortened to 16. Winds ranged from 5 to 10+. As a note to those who will be racing the buoy races. I have repositioned both "3" and "5". There were about one third of a mile off their intended GPS positions. This means that they are a little more North and much more East than the last races. This next week-end is the opening day at the lake and the blessing of the fleet. Check the club's web site and posted notices for details. The next scheduled race is the "Solo Cup". I would like to hear from those who are going to compete if they would prefer a race like last year that put a premium on boat handling with a start shaped buoy race or an offshore that will be more of a speed race. -- Don't be good...
