I think we will be in the Bear River/Stillwater area. I have hiked a lot in the east (Appalachian Trail, etc), but have never hiked west of the Mississippi (except in Alaska.) Can anyone give me any info about this area; i.e. terrain, altitudes, weather, animals (bears), fishing (non-resident 5 day license cost)? Any help would be appreciated. Altitudes will vary from about 8,500 feet to just over 12,000 feet. Summits will be above the tree line. There are a few bear in the area, but to my knowledge a minor factor. Lots of trails and lakes. Not a fisherman - haven't a clue on the license costs. Was in the Unita's (by the Bear River) this past 4th of July. Morning brought a light frost on the grass. It was great compared to sea level in Texas with 95+ degrees everyday. Wish I could go with you! Have fun - enjoy the beauty of those surroundings. Garth C. One peculiarity is that the Uinta National Forest is actually in the Wasatch Mountains, and a huge chunk of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest is in the Uinta Mountains. Don't ask me to explain, I can't. :) I hope this is not confusing the issue.
