Thanks James for your great work with the survey. It was really interesting and it also gave me some good laughs reading some of the comments. My favourite comments were "1 of you said that Yello's Philosophy shows that "Women are slippery Customers" " (No I'm not beeing sexistic, I just thought it was a hilarious comment) "They are always on time with deadlines. It means they've had military training and if you fold them; they fit into your pocket." It was also nice to see that there was a good spread in age and that there are at least one female on the list. One question that could have been interesting is if Yello appeals more to a male audience than a female, and if so, Why? Anyone?. The list seams to be dominated by males. Actually, the person who introduced Yello to me was a female, on the otherhand the first time I played Yello to my wife (who wasn't my wife at the time), she asked me to turn it of because it made her nervous. She thought it had a to complex rythm pattern for her taste. I can reasure you all that she now has grown to like Yello a lot. On the matter of opinion and taste (and in the light of the limited number of persons answering) were there any pattern in the answers from different countries. I mean, did people from for instance USA answer in the same way (like on the same favourite track, and so on)? >*Forgive my ignorance, but what is "Desire For Desire?" Well it isn't easy, but I did manage to cull 10 of my personal favorite Yello songs out. 1. Haunted House (Why was this never put on an album, it seems to be a common favorite) 2. Pinball Cha-Cha (New Mix in One Go Version) 3. La Habanera 4. Stannztrigger 5. The Race 6 Let Me Cry 7. Live At the Roxy (from New Mix in One Go) 8. Swing 9. Bostich (from NMiOG) 10. Hawaiian Chance There is a host of other songs just underneath, or deserving honerable mention, but I won't bother as I'll take up too much space. Some comments on the Yello survey; It seems as though most people (myself included) discovered Yello from "Oh Yeah," but don't include it on thier favorites list. I for one got a bit tired of it. But, that's the "signature" tune. Noone listed Claro, Que Si as a favorite. That seems to me to be the most consistant of all the releases. It's close to a favorite. I listed New Mix just because I liked some of the mixes over the original songs. I listed Baby as my "worst" album, and boy am I in the minority. I think my problem with Baby is that it is very similar right through. There isn't much change in the style or pace of the music, so after the first 2 or 3 songs I lost interest. Lately I listened to it on more of a song to song basis, and found it to be better. It's a toss up between Baby & Zebra, that may be a reason I am not really hyped about getting Pocket Universe. Will that be released in the US? Is the music in the vein of Zebra? I will probably get it someday. Just to be loyal, or something like that. I have been listening to yello since "I Love You" and they continue to be my favorite single group in the world. I live the L.A. area and had the pleasure of meeting Dieter in Malibu. (He maintains a home there as well.) He came in to my work a few times and was kind enough to sign my hands on yello CD. I asked him about the videos and he said he had a tape of them at home that he might give me. I think he got too busy. Anyway, if anyone wants to see Dieter's home (as well as his wife and family) check out the Dec./Jan. issue of ELLE DECOR. There is a few pages on his Zurich home. He even designed some of his own furniture. Well, maybe I digress... This is my point- Does anyone know how I can get a copy of the double CD Hands on Yello? If so let me know. I would also like to know how I might get some of the videos on VHS, (I could convert them from PAL if nec.) Finally, I am curious to know what some of your most prized Yello items are. This can be the next survey. Besides my autographed CD, I own a 7" picture disc of "I Love You" with a 3-D image and glasses to view it. Cool, huh? Open letter it reply to Julzmon who told me he though HH was the best Yello track ever and why. Dear Julzmon, thanks for the email. I have pulled Haunted House out of the cupboard once more to listen to it to see if I can find what it is that everyone else likes. The music ranges from great to intensly annoying thoughout the track, but I think it is the words that annoy me, along with the cheery whistling. It still gets the worst track award I am afraid. This did make me think that the boys wouldn't have released it if they didn't like it, so again, it proves that we all like different things. It also says a lot about Yello that they can produce such diverse music that it appeals to such a wide range of people, but you can't please all the people all the time. No doubt I'll be in a mellow mood and quite happily listen to L'Hotel without a blink soon, but I could never rate it as a favourite. Regards, Dave Goodman. PS. I also got 2 emails saying they thought HH was the worst track, and loved Habanera and Hairy "Girl". Time for a new thread: how about; why don't Yello release a limited edition of the 12" mixes. I followed the little discussion you had on Yello Mp3-files a while ago an found it rather interesting. The views are many and interesting. And here's mine. Have you ever heard of the german group Rammstein? Neither had I until I saw them on TV. I liked one of their songs but didn't know if it would be worth to buy their album. But I found some Mp3's of their songs that I listened to. Then I bought their album, went to one of their concerts, bought two of their singles. If it hadn't been for Mp3 I never would have done that - so thanks to Mp3 they've made money on me. But this is just me - other people I know have all their music on Mp3 and don't buy anything, so it's hard to tell whether it's good or not for the artist. But that's only new songs. When it comes to old Yello B-sides and singles I don't think that Yello make any money on them anyway. It's the companies who deal with used records that gets all the money, not Yello. And as somebody said it's only we on this list who are interested in those songs (We already have all Yello-albums and the singles we can get hold on, but some are just too expensive or hard to get.) and I don't see why we can't share them. I don't have very much rare material, but I'm willing to encode and share the ones I have with any Yello-fan out there. Everytime I get hold on an old Yello-song I get very happy. And I like to share that happiness with others. If someone has something rare encoded I'm also willing to receive it. Thank you for reading my views. /Andreas _________________________________ Andreas Andersson bostich@ts.umu.se http://www.ts.umu.se/~bostich _________________________________ Skyttegatan 20 B, S-981 37 Kiruna tfn: 0980-83312 _________________________________ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info yello" in the message. # Postings must go to yello@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Yello discography available at http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?yello ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 11:25:30 +0100 From: Kay Schlette Subject: Re: (yello) Yello (MP3) Hi Andreas,=20 At 09:58 30.01.98 +0100, Andreas Andersson wrote: >But that's only new songs.
