The Airman remix is not worst Yello remix what I have heard. That was more like a compliment. :-) Immediately I observed additional string synths -- a bit Jarre like -- and woman vocals. Putting woman singing instead of trying to imitiate Dieter's voice (or putting a men to sing at all) is a good idea. For you who don't know: How How sample set had no long vocal lines available. But what about those extra strings: are the melodies your own or did you copy the melodies from Yello stuff somewhere? I dislike if bass frequencies (below 100 Hz or such) are boosted too much. It may be amuzing to have bass sounds which puts everything in the room to vibrate but too much is too much. For example, Carl Cox's album -- the same which contains Musky, Cox's version of Magnetic -- has too much bass: if you want hear mids and highs good, you break your ears and get bass sickness because there is too much bass. So, Airman's remix has too much bass too in my opinion. Because I wanted to verify it, I compared Airman remix with respect to Yello's The Premix (How How). Airman remix has the frequency balance strongly toward the bass when compared to Yello's remix. Airman's bass sound is located at 60 Hz and Yello's at 40 Hz and 85 Hz. Airman's bass is about 6 dB higher (multiply volume by two) than Yello's bass but the difference is practically even higher because the frequency balance in Airman remix is toward the bass: to hear mids good, listener has to turn the volume knob higher. A minor thing is that the "How How" coming after woman's vocals sounds like recorded through telephone lines. The continuity of the sentence is "disturbted". By the way, when I wrote about a problem in going to your web pages, I had a Netscape in use at University. It had JavaScript but not Java. I really don't know what went wrong but the same applies to every computer at those computer rooms. So i wrote the text with the view of the girl, dieter speak to. A female friend have sung it. But at this time my equipment was not really good, so i have only this magnetic tape i send to the contest. From this tape i made the mp3. Perhaps i should record an instrumental remake with a good sound later. (Animate me to do this ;-) > But what about those extra strings: are the melodies > your own or did you copy the melodies from Yello stuff somewhere? No, it was a remix-contest and i am normally a composer myself. So i wanted to make a version you would put onto an maxi-CD of howhow - Another version of the same song. To give the song the touch of my own i put this strings into the song and an spacy, atmospheric version began to fly 8-) > [... analyzing the frequencies of the original an AIRMANs remix ...] > to hear mids good, listener has to turn the volume knob higher. Cool, you have found so many things in my song i never dreamed of !-)) Sorry, i mentioned it some lines below: My equipment was really bad. Only my sampler, the voice, a simple mixer and a mid price cassette-recorder. But you are right, the bass is very hard. I thought, that i would have a greater chance, if i would compose a kind of dance-version. So you hear this bass-drum (but it isn't a tekno-drum) and this simple high-hat combination. But at the end, on the winners-cd there was harder versions than my melodic version. Did anybody know this versions ? I was not possible to believe that this mixes won two weeks in the studios of Yello. 2 Versions are ok, but the other two - make your decision on your own: Perhaps i should put them onto the yello-ftp-server, isn't it ? > A minor thing is that the "How How" coming after woman's vocals sounds > like recorded through telephone lines. The continuity of the sentence > is "disturbted". Hm, right, but i thought this typical "how how" sample must be a part of the song. Sorry, about all the problems with my webpage. (I never used JAVA - strange). I plan to make a very simple text-version, to give the lynx-user a chance also. But the other version will be maked with flash - for the multimediafreaks ;-) Thank you, Juhana, for the detalailed critic. Sorry, for my bad english !-0 (Warum sprechen wir auch eigentlich nicht alle Schweitzer-Deutsch, so wie Dieter und Boris ;-)) have a nice week !
