I have to be in the right frame of mind for Brotzmann, but you might try his more recent work with the Die like a Dog quartet. PB has mellowed considerably in recent years, having much more of a dynamic range than on his classic recordings. This quartet also includes Toshinori Kondo on trumpet and electronics, making this group one of the few PB groups which includes a significant electronic element. If you like larger ensemble recordings, the 3cd set of the Chicago Octet/Tentet is great (haven't picked up the new one yet).
