I've been curious about "Elegy" and wondered if it's worth the investment. If someone can list composers which approximates the feel of "Elegy," I just might get it. P.S. If you have a catalog number, that would help too. ========================================================================= "It must suck to be you." -- Anonymous Greg Bueno bueno@uhunix.uhcc.hawaii.edu ========================================================================= ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From proussel@ichips.intel.com Tue Dec 13 19:02:02 1994 Subject: Re: ZORN DIGEST #5 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > >From scofielc@elwha.evergreen.edu Mon Dec 12 19:29:36 1994 > Subject: Re: ZORN DIGEST #4 > > hello...i heard today about a new Painkiller double cd on subharmonic > records. One side is "regular" Pain Killer, the other is the same pieces but in an ambient. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 156 - EXECUTION GROUND: Pain Killer Disc 1: 1/ Parish Of Tama (Ossuary Dub) 16:05 2/ Morning Of Balachaturdasi 14:45 3/ Pashupatinath 13:47 Disc 2: Ambient 4/ Pashupatinath 20:00 5/ Parish Of Tama 19:19 Recorded at Greenpoint Studio, Brooklyn, New York John Zorn: saxophone, voice; Bill Laswell: basses, samples; Mick Harris: drums, samples, voice. 1994 - Subharmonic, SD 7008-2 (2xCD) 1994 - Subharmonic, #1708 (limited edition 2xCD) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I found it at my local indie record store. Finding the limited edition might be a problem, but not the regular one (and any Zorn fan is enclined to a little bit of sweat to find his records :-). > --------------------------------------------------------------------------- > >From dshaen@mail.utexas.edu Tue Dec 13 02:26:53 1994 > Subject: Thieves Quartet > > I have a copy of the soundtrack to Theives Quartet by John Zorn. Never heard about that on record!!! Are you sure it is not from something on radio? Should have missed that one? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From edp@panix.com Tue Dec 13 19:58:13 1994 Subject: sonny clark memorial band @ knitting factory cancelled the other day my friend patrick went to see john zorn, john patton, kenny wolleson, some guitarist at the new knitting factory (i was occupied with blind idiot god at cb's; zorn fans should check them out, btw, their second album, "cyclotron", is on avant and i highly recommend it). there was a dewar's promotion going on. zorn didn't like that at all. he refused to play and walked out of the club saying "fuck dewars!" and threatened to never play there again. apparently the sonny clark memorial band shows this week have been cancelled. we'll see what happens... -ed ps for those who don't know about this already, check out, via WWW, http://www.acns.nwu.edu/WNUR/jazzbase, and look under live performance information i think it is and there's a thing i put together about the knitting factory's zorn retrospective last year which may be of some interest, i hope, to people on this list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From bg089@freenet.carleton.ca Wed Dec 14 13:55:29 1994 Subject: Re: ZORN DIGEST #5 >-------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>From scofielc@elwha.evergreen.edu Mon Dec 12 19:29:36 1994 >Subject: Re: ZORN DIGEST #4 > >hello...i heard today about a new Painkiller double cd on subharmonic >records. I havn't heard it yet but it should be interesting. I've seen it sitting in the local record store, as soon as I have some cash its mine but if you can't find it Subharmonic's address is 180 Varick Street, 14th floor New York, NY 10014 taken from the "send for more information card" that comes with Subharmonic cd's. -- ------------------------- Andrew Isherwood bg089@freenet.carleton.ca ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
