I think I already answered this, but _Giant Robot_, which was mastered in August, 1993 (!) is out in Japan on Sony. At this point, it looks grim for US release unless Sony wakes up. It is *much* better than _Bucketheadland_. It is also a concept album, mostly around a horror film. and: LeeGar@aol.com said: > >You can still get it from Cadence in NY but it will set ya back $32 plus >postage as it is a 2cd import. And the second disc is weak remixes of stuff from the first disc. Apparently that same night mike patton excreted on stage. but this guy who was there, and at some shows where the Deli Creeps played, told me Buckethead was raised in a chicken coop, imprisoned in their by his parents. They gave him a guitar tho so that's all he did. that's why he's so fast, even faster than ygnwvie or however you spell that rocker's name. -todd twalker@ocf.berkeley.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------ From rpeck@pure.com Fri Feb 24 14:08:02 1995 Subject: Buckethead >Subject: Re: Buckethead > >djs2852@is.NYU.EDU said: > >Among them - soundtrack to The Last >Action Hero; Jonas Hellborg, Buckethead and Michael Shrieve: Octave of the >Holy Innocents; Divinations Volume 1: Ambient Dub; Hakim Bey: T.A.Z.; all >three Praxis albums; one of Henry Kaiser's albums (his first recorded >appearance as far as I know and the only one under his real name); That would be "Hope You Like Our New Direction" which I coincidentally just got last week. Legend has it Buckethead was raised in a chicken coop by chickens and they pecked out his vocal chords so he can't speek. Can't confirm anything else although I'd be very interested to know. Does anyone have an idea as to how I could obtain a copy of "Giant Robot", I absolutely have to have this album. Anyway, there is a Marc Ribot/Fred Frith split > CD on SUBSONIC that is purportedly worthwhile. > Does anybody know any more about the histories of either one? Subsonic doesn't exactly look like a spin off of Sub Rosa but rather the first in a new series of compilations (cf. the Myths, Le Coeur de Monde, & Utopian Diaries series). I'm sure that it, like everything else on SR, is under the musical direction of Guy Marc Hinant & Frederic Walheer. The sub-title to the new series would appear to be "reinventing the guitar." The Marc Ribot material on "sounds of a distant episode" is by far the roughest (i.e. "difficult listening") that I've ever heard from him (my experience with Mr Ribot comprising the two lps on Crepuscule, various appearances on Knitting Factory, the lp on Avant, and, of course the Jazz Passengers - all this would be just the tip of the iceberg I suppose?). It's comparable to, say, the second and third tracks from "Shrek". But way more spaced out. I like the Frith tracks, but they seem to be pretty much in the same vein as the only other solo Frith record I've ever heard: the "live in Japan" box from about 10 years ago. So I can't very well say just how it compares to his other work. If you've got the time for difficult listening I'd recommend the disc. But I'm totally biased since Sub Rosa is my favorite label (that is still current, anyway). If anyone else is similarly afflicted, let me know and I'll post the label discography that I've been working on. I'd appreciate help in filling in the gaps. xander ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- From simon@isys.king.ac.uk Mon Feb 27 05:50:26 1995 Subject: contacting zorn?
