She plays drum machines and Marc Ribot and Robert Quine play guitars. Quine, for those of y'all who don't know, played with Richard Hell, Lou Reed, Michael Sweet, and JZ (he's all over Filmworks). Anyway, this CD is Ennio Morricone spaghetti western music, but more drawn out and ambient. I like it a lot, though I was expecting more extreme guitar action. So, how can I get Masada 4? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From rpeck@pure.com Fri Apr 14 15:01:31 1995 Subject: ZORN DIGEST #43 >2)Daled by Masada is not for sale. I have Alef, Beit and Gimmel, and feel I REALLY need Daled =) If anyone comes up with the how to, where to, and what to on the japanese instructions, I would be really appreciative to be let in on them. Also, as a side note, has anyone discovered which of the new Tzadik releases will have Cynical Hysterie Hour stuff on them?? Thanks for the search. They just played their only Seattle 1995 show last night, Friday the 14th. Given that this is Wayne's hometown, things are not looking up.... Briggan Krauss, the alto player, moved to NYC before the albums came out to play with his group BABKAS(highly inferior to Pigpen mainly because of the MUCH weaker composing...). He has no plans to move back.... Thus, to quote Mike Stone, the drummer, who I was chatting with a couple of weeks ago, "We might as well be broken up..." (BTW, he told me his favorite album (of theirs) is "miss ann") Tonight, Sat the 15th, Pigpen plays at the Satyricon in Portland, OR. This 'theoretically' could be their last show.....(but probably not!!!) Btw, the Pigpen show last night was very loose, not one of their better performances....due obviously to the total lack of rehearsal time.... They are in no shape to go to the studio right now....and besides, Wayne only played one new tune last night...(tribute to Hemphill). Also: Has anyone out there seen Pigpen live?(and where?) I would love to hear opinions, reactions, whatever....email me personally if u want... From the Axiom home page, click on "Images" to get to them. They are very large (>300K) but very high quality - it may take a long time to download them. She says that we are instructed to: Send 1.address, 2.name and 3.age [presumably in that order - I find it remarkable that they are asking for our ages (market research?)] along with 190 yen for postage fees and the three little corner stubs (cut on dotted line). Transliterated, the address reads: DIW RECORD 2-13-1 _ IDA-BASHI, , CHIYODA-KU, _ TOKYO. T102 JAPAN [That's not really a "T" (tee) with a macron over it. The macron should be level with the top of the 102. (Your best bet is to find the "102" on the wrapper unit and see the character next to it) Since (says Akiko) they don't have checks in Japan and the smallest denomination of paper money is 1000 yen, the record company is obviously expecting the fans to send postage stamps. So what can we do? Me thinks a handful of IRC's would be appropriate. (I hope everyone remembers what IRC stood for before the internet). Each IRC is supposed to be redeemable for 1st class overseas postage for one standard size letter. Although someone from DIW would still have to exchange them at the post office, it would save them (and us) the hassle of currency exchange. Now the question is, how many IRC's to send? Akiko thinks that the domestic letter rate in Japan is 95 yen, which implies that domestic postage on a cd is only twice the ordinary letter rate. From which we might conclude that twice the overseas letter rate would cover a cd. The last I checked IRC's only cost 95 cents here. I can't believe that we could get away with only two coupons. That's way too cheap. Maybe five? Ten? I certainly hope that someone can cook up a more secure scheme. Xander ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
