He was a member of the Anthony Braxton Quartet for appr. 15 years. Virtually all albums are incredible as Marilyn Crispell(piano) and Gerry Hemingway(drums) are phenomenal as well. Also worth checking out are his CD`s with Tim Berne. I think Tim Berne is the best musician on the planet. Dresser is on Fractured Fairy Tales,Sanctified Dreams,Pace Yourself, and Nice View. I could go on and on about these but most are probably very familiar with them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -From trenkel@python.CS.ORST.EDU Mon Oct 9 15:41:46 1995 -Subject: Re: ZORN DIGEST #94 > --From papagian@iesl.forth.gr Thu Oct 5 10:36:38 1995 > --Subject: dresser > > hi, > i would like to get some info on marc dresser, who has never been > discussed here as far as i remember.... One of my current favorite records is the Arcado String Trio/Trio de Clarinettes "Green Dolphy Suite" CD on Enja. Ernst Riejseger has replaced Hank Roberts in Arcado, which is an improvement, for me at least. The Trio de Clarinettes is Louis Sclavis, Armand Angster and Jacques di Donato. The music is a wonderful mix of chamber music and jazz, some of the compositions remind me of Bartok and early Stravinsky. Another interesting Dresser record is Bob Ostertag's "Say No More", in which Ostertag recombines solo improvisations by Dresser, Joey Baron, Gerry Hemingway and Phil Minton into ensemble pieces through extensive computer editing. Also, if you haven't heard Dresser's work with Anthony Braxton and Tim Berne, you really need to check that out! When I saw Zorn at the Duke U. Masada show last year I think the man's very words were "Bungle knows their shit. All I did as producer was just polish the stone". For those of you not familiar with Bungle, they're like a yet more chaotic Naked City, weird funny violent and tighter than an earthworm's rectum. And I think Zorn brought in Shea, but I didn't hear that out of Zorn's mouth- just commensurate respect for fellow avante guard musical instrument torturers. The music is terse, dense, skronky. Not the slightest ballad, Brazilian rhythm or synthe- sizer (and I like a lot the Ambitious Lovers!). A kind of back to the roots. Get it!
