The record stores in question are not going to have anything on this, yet, as we have yet to reach the start date of the promotion. Just another Morleyesque play on words, and one's attentiveness. Mainly, my concern is whether or not there are going to be restrictions to how many tracks they will allow to be put on one CD. And, also, what is the price tag going to be for such a stunning offer? Maybe now I can get a clean, unscratched copy of the 1min 30sec long version of Moments In Love that Enigma ripped the drum loop from for Sadeness Pt 1. Or better yet, a longer version! The cassette re-issues of Into Battle have never included it. Hey Lazlo! You're the cataloging/playlist guru around here. What was the proper title of the Moments cut I'm reffereing to? I ordered Seduction from CDNow about a week ago. The CD isn't free. It's $5 for 5 tracks, extra tracks $1.25 each. Here are the selections (sorry for the line wrapping): A Time to Hear (Who's Listening) - 3:34 The thoughtful compression of an entire Art of Noise album into something vaguely resembling a near song experience. The b-side of the close (to the edit) 7" single. Beat Box (One Made Earlier) - 2:27 Live in the studio. Art of Noise jamming in a way few could imagine. The bare bones of a virtual favorite. The meat was added later. Such a secret, it has never been previously released. Who's Afraid (Of Scale) - 4:38 A piece of sheer sense deeply concerned with the size of things. Eventually, scale would be replaced by Art of Noise. If this was a song, and it was about anything, it would be about the love of brackets. A pre-version of who's afraid (of Art of Noise) Resonance - 2:14 An unreleased sketch for things to come, even if the things never came. From the battle period. Beat Box (Diverted) - 8:12 Bones rattling in the beat box. If the meat wasn't yet added, the vegetables certainly were. This was used somewhere for a brief moment. Memory Loss - 1:27 We forgot what we were going to do with this. Perhaps someone might remind us. Previously unreleased. Structure - 1:14 If the budgie died, we knew that gas had entered the studio and we must put on our masks and evacuate immediately. We named the budgie Structure, for reasons we must deny. We loved that budgie. We remember him fondly on this previously unreleased battle period delusion. A Time to Clear (Up) - 4:19 Eventually this became A Time To Fear (Who's Afraid), the opening track on the who's afraid album, and the rest was philosophy. Beat Box (Diversion) - 4:09 A meaty beaty big and flouncy version of Beat Box, which makes you wonder. An inverted song with such sound young boys and girls were known to swoon. Duck rock becomes duck soup. This was once released for a moment or two on a twelve inch. The Subject Has Moved Left - 1:46 Just how political are Art of Noise? This unreleased battle period rattle explains little, which explains a lot. Closer (To The Edit) - 6:23 This extra- large size version of a song sung surreal - from a British twelve inch - showed off best how much Art of Noise loved moving mostly through space and time. This kicked off a new dance craze. How many of you remember doing the edit? It was sort of like the twist, without the unpleasant bits. Resin - 3:20 Sometimes we liked to get real close to the edit. And other times, as on this unreleased battle period meditation, we liked to get so far away from the edit we were cruising close to Saturn. - -- Cliff Tuel -- cliff@ablecom.net # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info ztt" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email ztt@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # ZTT discography available at http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?ztt ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 10:34:21 -0700 (PDT) From: mike@hyperreal.org Subject: (ztt) Custom AoN CD info (fwd) Wow, more unreleased than released. I used to dream of trainspottery bliss like this. What 12" is Closer (to the Edit) from? I can't find anything even close (er..) to that length in Lazlo's discography or Joerg's diversion list. I thought maybe it was Beat Box (Diversion Two), which is Close (to the Edit) with about 20 seconds extra in the middle, but that would make it only 6:02, a time I believe I contributed to the discography myself. And "A Time to Clear (It Up)" was a title that appeared on the 12" picture disc, but the record contained these 2 tracks on that side: "Close Up (Hop)" and "A Time to Hear (Who's Listening)"... noting the difference in times, and the inclusion of ATtH(WL) on the CD, I think perhaps the picture disc was mislabeled. We will see. Why am I excited more by this bonus CD than by The Seduction of Claude Debussy? Oh, that's right. Big, meaty, 8-bit Fairlight samples. Mmm.... If I were ruler of the universe, I would force Trevor, Anne, J.J. and Gary into a room with nothing but a Fairlight CMI IIx, a PPG Wave 2, a shortwave radio, a hard disk recorder and ProTools. Who's Afraid (of Scale) and Beat Box (Diverted) sound great... they've got such a Euro, melodic feel. You've got to give AoN credit for putting out stripped down versions on the album to make Who's Afraid more scary than trendy. You've got to give them major credit for not just putting out The Seduction, but also giving us fans -two bonus discs- released at the same time! What's the deal with Closer (To The Edit) and Beat Box (Diversion) though? They sound, well, -just like Close to the Edit and Beat Box-! I was hoping Closer was something from That Was Close and renamed, but no. If I were ruler of the universe, I'd force Universal to print up 3" CDs of That Was Close and send them to every living individual on the planet because it's the best thing Art of Noise have ever done, distilled into 20 minutes of sheer pleasure.
